Sure, she makes pure pop for now people, but it’s Brittany’s every-girl that comes shining through in the end. That is why Shane has been able to share stages over the years with such a varied array of artists (the Breeders, Indigo Girls, Stevie Nicks, Aimee Mann, Heart, to name a few), without seeming like there’s been a mistake in the billing.

A sonic adventure with influences ranging from Simon and Garfunkel to The Beatles’ White Album, it’s the distinct lyrical musings that set it apart from other folk-pop albums this year. Singer-songwriter Johnny Clay delivers a dramatic history lesson with a baroque assortment of instruments, sixties pop harmonies, and delightfully simple arrangements as though he’s channeling the spirits of people, places and events from early day Boston, Massachusetts. Originally a four-piece, The Dimes have recently evolved to a seven-piece, adding a cello, pedal steel, and a revolving cast of artists and instruments, representing all the layers, pastoral elements, and lush harmonies found on the record..

Live Music question by aboutthemusiclive: What is the live music scene like in Salem, Oregon and nearby cities?
I sing and my boyfriend is a drummer. We plan to move out of CA partly because the music scene here seems to be going back to the disco days of DJ’s, with rap and hip-hop leading the way. Please tell me there is somewhere where people still love live music (and are offering more than tips!).

My friend is involved in the live music scene in Salem… check out his myspace (username jwrockstar).
Other than that, I would go watch live music at Coffee House Cafe, the Governor’s Cup, Dragonfly Cafe and Lefty’s when I was in college.
Portland or Eugene are probably a better bet for getting paying gigs… and only an hour away by car in either direction!
